Gavin Jowitt is an Australian artist and photographer based in Sydney.

Gavin Jowitt works predominantly with moving image and photography to explore the embodied meaning of the natural environment, our connection to the land and the impact of human engagement on our world. Through his work, Jowitt aims to investigate how lens-based art practice can reframe our understanding of the land and address the transformation of our world in the Anthropocene.

Originally from the UK, Jowitt spent four years studying art and design, graduating in 1988 from Epsom School of Art & Design with a Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design. He migrated to Australia in 1992. Jowitt worked for 20 years as a graphic designer before switching careers to photography. In 2023, he completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at The University of New South Wales.
