Light is electromagnetic radiation within the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that the human eye perceives. Light is a physical object without mass that is in constant motion. The only way we see space and the things that occupy that space is by the way light is absorbed and emitted from the surfaces in strikes. As such, without light, there is no visual art.
This work explores how light can be seen as an object in the context of sculpture. The use of a plinth references a traditional way for sculpture to be presented, and as viewers, we are used to ignoring it. On approach, the viewer is presented with a colour square on the surface of the plinth. Perhaps a homage to painters Kazimir Malevich or Josef Albers. However, as the viewer gets closer and their eyes adjust to the subtleties of the light, the spacial aspect of the light becomes apparent. There is also an interactive element to the light as the colour changes in response to sound. Looking down into the plinth, the square motive is repeated and the source of the light remains ambiguous.
